SLURPING ON BIRDS NEST @ LUMPINI PARK

Lumpini Park, created by King Rama VI in 1920, is a 57.6 hectare park that is accessible via Silom or Lumpini MRT stations. If you don't mind waddling a little bit more, you can also reach it via Saladeang BTS station.

It's quite pleasant to go take a stroll in the early morning. You see many people doing all sorts of healthy stuff with their hands and legs, fans and swords, and there is usually a huge prancing group of Thais attempting aerobics en mass.
I don't think this is written in any guidebook nor discovered by any blogger so listen up: you can eat birds nest within this park in the morning. This nugget was passed on to me courtesy of Kitty who wakes up at 5.30am even when travelling and goes to a salon in Silom that opens at 6am so she can have her hair washed and blown dry. She then goes to the park for her walk and a bowl of birds nest. These slivers are sold for 50 and 100 baht a bowl and you can have the option of an egg yolk. At this knockoff prices, please do not expect long, unbroken strands sold in Chinatown.

There are also other food stalls for you to have an excellent breakfast of Teochew porridge accompanied by simple tasty dishes. There is one that sells super huge handmade siew mai too.

Directions: At the park's main entrance, which is opposite the Dusit Thani hotel, keep to the left, walk pass the open-air gym (pic above) and it is after the swimming pool. Expect to walk about 10 minutes to reach these cluster of stalls. Bon appetit.
