GOING LOCAL WITH THE LOCAL

The Local is one of those charming, old, rambling houses with different dining spaces within that are so worth exploring, apart from its delicious cuisine. If you are in the Asok BTS/Sukhumvit MRT/Terminal 21 vicinity, do consider paying a visit.
You get to appreciate long lost recipes here and savour familiar flavours from the past, made by Thai chefs who are commonly revered as mothers of the kitchen.
Each dining space is elegantly decorated and beautifully laid out for a memorable meal to follow.
There is a mini museum in situ, displaying old Thai dishes, cutlery, lunch boxes, pots and ancient cookbooks in glass cabinets along a passage way.
This would be where you will most likely be seated, in the open dining hall with comfy rattan chairs and pretty wall murals.
Mel bought me dinner when we visited in May this year and these were what we ate, which was way too much for two!
Dishes that sound pretty unusual and very uncommon in most restaurants include Thai mackerel with coconut milk and lotus stem, southern-style fish curry, lemongrass salad with wild betel leaves, spicy yellow curry paste with Thai abalone and Thai local fish stewed with sugar cane.
Directions: Alight at either Sukhumvit MRT station (Exit 1 or 2) or Asoke BTS station and follow the red arrows below as shown.
