I simply swoon at the interior design of Vanilla Home Cafe at the basement of Silom Complex. It is enough to give all the other restaurants here a severe complex!
More than anything, it's the very lovely carpentry work I drool over, the many chests and drawers that fit in so perfectly with the overall Japanese-inspired vibe that makes me wanna do an auto-Japanese bow of appreciation.
And here comes the very interesting part. Their menu is all about the Thai classics, with a few rare, and thus precious, old style dishes to be found amongst the trendy fusion choices available.
Try the khao pad namprik pla too (rice with chili shrimp paste,150 baht). Its tasty simplicity comes with a piece of fried pla too (mackerel). It's comfort food for the Thais and I can tell that the rice itself is of a good quality.
There is also the tasty crispy fried tofu with salt and chilli (95 baht), sweet and salty chicken wings coated with nam pla wan marinate (130 baht), and mee krob boran, a soury crispy noodle platter (130 baht).

For the fusion dishes, you may want to try their spaghetti with spicy kapi (shrimp paste), prawns and crunchy sataw beans (165 baht), spicy braised beef soup with kapi that comes with beef slices in a herbal broth of shallots, lemongrass and basil leaves (165 baht).
Under beverages, I counted about 50 mind-boggling options. The helpful waitress pointed out two customer favourites - iced jasmine latte (95 baht) and peach and plum punch (90 baht).
So now you know. It's definitely not vanilla at Vanilla Home Cafe!
